"Teaching children about the natural world should be treated as one of the most important events in their lives.”
– Thomas Berry - Priest, Author and Teacher

"It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanates from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit." - Robert Louis Stevenson - Author; Treasure Island
Special Thanks: For the last many years Gretna Glen has benefited from the kindness and outreach of the Pennsylvania Backyard Beekeepers Association - an initiative of PennAPIC.
Our Observational Beehive is a high-point of our outdoor education experience, and has opened many camper's, and student's eyes to the wonder and beauty of bees. These important pollinators have come to life literally in our Zimmerman Environmental Education Center since 2013, and we are so thankful for their continued partnership.
