Our 2016 Goal:

4/11/16 TEAM REGISTRATION UPDATE:

You want to register with your team, but the wave they are in, is full?  We've been hearing that a lot lately.  Our goal is to make sure everyone runs together who wishes to on May 7th.  Meaning that we will work with you to keep the team in the same wave.  Sadly, because of participant caps, there is not a very clean way to do this with the registration software .  TEAM LEADERS for any teams that are spread out over multiple waves PLEASE EMAIL gritty@gretnaglen.org so that we can coordinate with your team leaders an appropriate time for your team to run together.

We apologize for this inconvenience and will work towards making our team registrations cleaner in the future.  We appreciate your patience, and persistence in registering for the Gretna Gritty.  Thank you for supporting Gretna Glen.

All proceeds for this event excluding the costs of participation will go directly toward Gretna Glen Camp & Retreat Center's "Pathway to the Future" Initiative. We seek to cast off our burden of debt so that camp can continue free of financial struggle, transforming lives for many years to come. Our goal this year is to have more runners than ever before, and raise more than $50,000! With your help, we can make this vision a reality.

In it's third year is the Nitty Gritty Kids run for children (5-11 years old) to get in on the action with a 1 mile fun run.  This event is non-competitive, and not timed.  Nitty Runners can show up anytime between 10:00am and 1:00pm, and during the run we will have spotters to supervise your children, but parents are welcome to run along in a non participatory role. All participants can expect lunch, medals, special promotions, a sweet Gretna Gritty t-shirt, and smiles for the whole ride home!

Volunteers

We need more than 100 volunteers to make everything work. The Gritty doesn’t happen, and is a lot less fun without our impressive volunteer crew. You can sign up to help here.

Fundraising

In the  last 3 years, the Gretna Gritty has raised more than $104,000! That itself is a huge achievement but we’re not done yet. All proceeds for this event, excluding the costs of participation, will go directly toward Gretna Glen Camp & Retreat Center's "Pathways to the Future" finance initiative. We seek to cast off our burden of debt so that camp can continue free of financial struggle, transforming lives for many years to come. Our goal this year is to have at least 1000 runners and raise more than $50,000! With your help, we can make this dream become a reality.

Team information

Teams for the Gritty fall under two basic categories:  Competitive, and Non-Competitive. When registering for either type of event, you will be given the option to create or sign up on a team.  Below are some of the details about these two types of teams:

Competitive:

  • These teams will consist of 4 people.  No more, no less (if you do not have 4 team members by the day of your event, you will all run as individuals).
  • They may be mixed gender, and there will be no separate awards for all male, or all female teams.
  • Team ranking will be done using a cumulative time (if for example, all 4 team mates ran the Gritty in exactly 45 minutes, the cumulative time would be 3 hours.)

Non Competitive:

  • These teams will consist of as many or as few people as you'd like.
  • As with all non-competitive Gritty runners, there will be no timing for any non competitive events.
  • Walk-A-Thon-ers may also be members of -and create teams.

NItty Gritty:

There are no team options for Nitty Gritty runners online - but running with your friends is always a blast!

Chip Timing Disclaimer

This year, the only professionally timed heats will be the competitive heats. In an effort to save you money, we encourage any non-competitive runners to time themselves (our race director Dan says his watch has made it through two Gritty courses). If you don’t want to compete, but you want to be professionally timed, just sign up for the competitive heats anyway. It is REALLY OKAY to just wait at the back of the pack during the competitive run.
